This is a key page on the site since it allows you to add Notes to your Logbook. The Notes you attach to a Garden and or Plant comprises its history. The Logbook allows you to record a history of your garden at the level of detail you prefer. The level of detail is normally determined by how you plan to use the information in the future. We would suggest that if this is your first attempt at record keeping that you initially limit your recording to some of the major actions and observations. Then as you become more experienced add more Notes that provide the additional information you desire.
You first must specify which of your Gardens you want to add the Note to. You accomplish this by selecting the Garden from the pull down field located under the text, What Garden is This Note For?". This field is preloaded with the Garden you are currently working with so you will only need to use the pull down if you want to add the Note to a different Garden.
Next you can select the type of Note you want to add to the Garden. You use the pull down under the text, "Which Type of Note is This?". There are three types of Notes as follows:
Observations - Are used to record things you have observed such as the health or yield of a Plant. These are recorded using a simple 4-star rating system.
Actions - Are used to record things you have done to your Garden or Plants such as planting, mulching and harvesting.
General Notes - Are used to record things that are not specific Observations or Actions.
You select the date of the Note using the calendar function. The calendar will default to the current date but you can back date the Note if you want.
A Note can be added to a Garden or to specific Plants in a Garden. For example, you may want to add a Note with an Action of "Water" to the Garden since you watered all of the Plants in the Garden. On the other hand, you might want to add a Note with an Observation of "Bug Status" to just a couple of Plants if you find some bugs on only a couple tomato Plants.
Initially a Note is added to the entire Garden. There are two ways you can attach specific Plants to the Note:
Add a check mark in the box in front of the "I'd like to attach plants to this note." prior to clicking on the button. This will take you to the Attach Plants to Note page where you can attach the Plants you want to the Note once you click the button.
You can attach Plants from the Note page by clicking on the button. This will take you to the Attach Plants to Note page where you can attach the Plants you want to the Note.
You can optionally enter a Rating (1-4) on your Note by using the pull down under the text, "Rating". This is used most often with Observations that you make. For example, you may give a Rating of "4" when adding an Observation of "Flavor and Taste" to a Plant that has outstanding flavor. If you would like you can also use the Rating to indicate how difficult a specific Action was to perform. For example, you may give a Rating of "1" to an Action of "Prune" to your tomato Plants if the pruning was easy to do. Any Ratings you enter will be displayed with the Note as stars () when your Notes are displayed.
Finally, you can add any notes you would like to the Note by writing in the Notes field. These notes will be displayed on the "Garden" and "Plant" pages.
Once you have completed all of the fields click on the button. If you unchecked the box in front of the option "I'd like to attach plants to this note." you will go to the Note page.
You can add Notes to your Garden Logbook with the level of detail you require. These Notes may record specific Actions (ex. fertilize, water, harvest), Observations (ex. flavor and taste, yield) or general information. You can also attach specific plants and photos to these notes.
